There are two bicycles available for loan. Users may borrow them for up to four hours. If you want to use them on a weekend morning, check out the bikes before the library closes on the day before.
To check out a bicycle, you will need to bring your Camcard and sign a waiver form.
In addition to the bicycle, you will check out a helmet. In addition, you may also check out other accessories, including a basket and a lock.

In consideration of my participation in the Meredith College Borrow-A-Bike (BAB), I hereby freely agree to make the following contractual representations and agreements:
I fully realize the dangers of participating in an activity and/or event of this type and voluntarily assume all the risks associated with such participation. I understand the risks include, by way of example, and not limitation, the following: Accidents may happen while using the issued equipment. Injuries can occur due to falls, equipment failure, other bikers, pedestrians, motor vehicles, misuse of equipment, equipment, slippery surfaces, and/or overexertion. Injuries could result in concussion or other head injuries, broken bones, contusions, torn muscles or tendons, strains, sprains, cuts, pinched fingers, neck and spinal injuries, psychological trauma, hospitalization, and/or death. In addition, I understand that wearing a helmet is best practice when riding a bike and the law in NC if I am under 16 years of age. If I choose not to wear a helmet, I agree to assume all fines, additional risk of personal injury and death that may occur as a result of not wearing a helmet.
I agree that it is my sole responsibility to be familiar with the physical and/or mental demands associated with the above named activity. With these demands in mind, I have no physical or mental condition, which to my knowledge, would endanger myself or others if I participate in this activity, or would interfere with my ability to participate in the activity. I also agree to abide by any established North Carolina Bicycle and Pedestrian laws and/or regulations while engaged in this activity.
I understand that Meredith College has no responsibility to provide any extraordinary duties or safety measures in relation to this activity and that I must use reason and judgment in my undertakings hereunder.
I understand and expressly assume all the risks and dangers of the activities contemplated by this Agreement, and I hereby release, waive, discharge, and covenant not to sue Meredith College, and their officers, agents, servants, and employees (collectively, the “Releases”) from all liability, claims, demands, actions, or causes of action whatsoever arising out of any damages, loss, or injury to me or to my property while participating in any of the activities contemplated by this Agreement, whether such damage, loss, or injury results from the negligence of the Releases or from any other cause. I also hereby release, waive, discharge and covenant not to sue the Releases from any claims whatsoever on account of any first aid, treatment, or service rendered to me during my participation in the above activity. I hereby agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Releases from any loss, liability, damage, or costs, including court costs and attorneys’ fees, that they may incur due to my participation in said activities, whether caused by the negligence of Releases or otherwise.
I agree, for myself and my successors, that the above representations and agreements are contractually binding, and are not mere recitals. I agree that my failure or refusal to sign such agreements or releases shall in no way affect the validity of this Agreement, nor revoke or cancel any of the terms of this Agreement. I or any of my successors shall be liable for the expenses (including legal fees) incurred by the party or parties in defending against such claim or suit. This Agreement shall not be modified orally.
Meredith College has made literature on bicycle safety and the North Carolina Bicycle and Pedestrian Laws available to me. I agree to act in accordance with this information and will take full responsibility for any actions resulting from non-compliance.
Financial Responsibility Waiver
By signing the waiver, you accept full financial responsibility for the bicycle and any equipment that is assigned to you during check out of the Borrow-a-Bike program. If any of the equipment assigned to you for the duration of your rental period is damaged, lost or stolen, you are responsible for paying for the full replacement cost of the damaged, lost or stolen equipment. If you fail to report any damaged, lost, or stolen equipment to the Borrow-a-Bike program, you will be contacted directly by a Borrow-a-Bike administrator and will be required to pay the full replacement or repair cost of the damaged, lost, or stolen equipment. By signing below, students acknowledge that any charges will be charged directly to your Meredith College student account and that you are responsible for fulfilling all financial obligations as stated above.
- Late Return Fee Bike: $10.00/hour
- Lost/Destroyed Bike: $555.00 replacement cost
- Lost/Destroyed Helmet: $40 replacement cost
- Lost/Destroyed Lock: $30 replacement cost
- Lost/Destroyed Bell: $15 replacement cost
- Lost/Destroyed Basket: $40 replacement cost
- Damage due to Misuse: Fee based on cost of part(s) and labor
- Late Return Fee for Helmet, Lock, Basket: $1/hour for each item
By signing the waiver, you accept all legal liability associated with the operation of the bicycle and equipment that are assigned to you during check out of the Borrow-a-Bike program. You are responsible for your actions involving Borrow-a-Bike equipment for the duration of your rental period, including the operation of the bicycle, any accidents or injuries that may occur, and the safe and lawful operation of the bicycle at all times. You assume all liability for any bodily injury or property damage to you or any other person or organization involving Borrow-a-Bike equipment for the duration of your rental period, and agree to indemnify Meredith College and all affiliated organizations.
- All participants must have a current liability waver on file
- All participants agree to return all equipment in the condition it was received
- All participants agree to be charged if equipment is not returned, is lost or damaged
- Only the participant that signed this waiver can ride the bicycle. No other riders are allowed on the bike.
- No modifications may be made to the bicycle by the participant
- Serial numbers may not be taken off or tampered with
- All participants assume responsibility for possession and damage to the bicycle and all related equipment
- All participants must comply with related local, state, and federal laws
- Participants should be courteous to other bikers and pedestrians and follow rights-of-way
- Participants should inform staff of problems with individual bicycles and related equipment
- Helmets are provided and are the responsibility of the participant to wear, and are required while riding a Meredith Bicycle
- Locks are provided and required when you are not with the bike
- Participants are responsible for the cost associated as stated above in the Financial Responsibility Waiver
- All participants must return bikes before dark.

I have carefully read this form and fully understand its contents. All information I have provided is true. I am aware that this is a release of liability, a waiver of claims, an agreement not to sue, an indemnity, and a contract between myself and Meredith College and for the benefit of others described herein, I sign it of my own free will.
