Binding

The library is no longer able to provide binding services to patrons.  We encourage patrons to go to the website www.lulu.com in order to self publish their manuscripts.  To rebind books patrons should contact the HF Group Bindery in Greensboro directly (www.hfgroup.com):

6204 Corporate Park Drive
Browns Summit, NC 27214-9745
(336) 931-0800 (All services)

Book Sale

The library has an ongoing book sale all year long -- the price of every book is $1.00. Look for a rotating selection of books on a shelf next to the library entrance. Please place your money the gray metal box on top of the bookshelf. The book sale is on the honor system.

To donate books to the book sale, contact Carrie Nichols or talk to someone at the Information Desk.

100% of proceeds go to campus fundraisers.

Computers

There are plenty of computers to use while in the library. All except loaner and LINC center computers are available to the public. Here are the different areas to choose from:

- Freeman Room computers: 15 computers available for use by Meredith students, faculty and staff only on the ground floor of the library. These computers have Microsoft Office as well as Adobe Design Premium, Logger Pro, and SPSS.  A list of all software available on Freeman Room computers is available here.

- Reference/Index area computers: Near the entrance of the library are  6 sit-down computer stations. Use these computers for typing papers, doing email, creating PowerPoint, Excel, Access, or Word documents.

- Second floor computers: At the top of the main staircase, there are 2 computers available. Use these computers to search the library catalog, search CCL's research databases, or do other research online. These computers do not have any Microsoft Office or other software installed on them (for these other programs, use the Freeman Room or Reference/Index area computers).

-  Loaner computers:  A number of laptops  are available for 4 day loans to Meredith students, faculty and staff. Come to Media Services in the library to borrow one. Advance reservations are recommended but not required; call Media Services at  8444 to reserve.

- Internet access: A public wireless network is available. Please ask at the main service desk for details.

- Printing: For information on printing in the library, and a link to download printer drivers, see here.

Copying

There are two copiers in the library:
    - Copier 1: In Room 111 on main floor. Accepts CamCards only. Has a paper feeder on top.  Can also be used as a scanner.
    - Copier 2: On ground floor by periodicals. Accepts coins/bills.

It costs 10 cents to make a copy.

To make a transparency: Transparencies can be made on any copier. You must buy the transparency at the Circulation desk and the transparencies must be purchased using CASH. They cost 45 cents each. If you use another kind of transparency, it will melt in the copier.

Color copies: The copier in the Creation Station has the ability to make color copies.

Fax

You may send or receive a fax from the library.

The fax machine is in the library administration office.  Ask at the main library desk for assistance.

Interlibrary Loan

If an item is not available at Meredith, the library can obtain it for you by borrowing or getting a photocopy from another library.  Please see the Interlibrary Loan page for guidelines.

Kindle e-readers

The library has 6 Amazon Kindle e-readers available for checkout to faculty, staff, and students only.  Each Kindle is preloaded with identical libraries of approximately 60 ebooks.  Details are on the Kindles In the Library page.

Lamination

Need to get something laminated? Media Services is the place for that. Bring what you want to laminate; they will show you how. The cost is only $0.20 per foot. Something to remember - it takes 20 minutes for the laminator to warm up, so call ahead (x 8444) to make sure it is on and that someone will be there to help you.

Printing

The library has four printers connected to the campus network. All require a user to swipe his/her campus card and the card must contain sufficient funds to pay for the printing.  See a library staff member if assistance is needed.  There are no printers that accept cash.

To print from a personal laptop in the library, you may need to download and install the appropriate printer drivers.  Download drivers here.

Each Fall semester, Technology Services gives Freshmen students $5.00 for printing. Students can add additional funds to their CamCard which can be used for anything, (i.e. printing, supply store purchases, photocopying etc.)

Quiet Study

The top floor of the library is dedicated to quiet study. Conversation is permitted on that floor as long as it is brief and quiet enough to not disturb students in the area. There is also a silent study room (115) on the top floor next to the stairwell where no conversation or sound is permitted.

Conversation is permitted in other areas of the library, but library patrons are still expected to be considerate of others around them.

Patrons who feel that someone is at a noise level that is disturbing should bring it to the attention of the staff at the circulation or reference desk on the main floor.

Request for Purchase

The Library welcomes requests from faculty, staff, and students to purchase items for the library collection. Please use the Purchase Request form for this purpose.

Room Reservations

All six study rooms are available for use, including five on the 2nd floor and one on the ground floor.  Each room's capacity is limited to the number posted by the door, either 1 or 2 people. You may reserve a study room on our Study Room calendar. If this is your first time reserving a study room, you will need to create a free account.  Also, in order to protect the health of fellow students, please be sure to clean work surfaces before and after each use.

Scanning

The library's Creation Station (Room #111) includes an overhead KIC scanner that can easily scan books or other physical items.  It also has an attached document feeder scanner that can be used to scan stacks of paper.  The resulting scanned documents can be emailed to yourself or saved to a USB drive.

The Creation Station also offers a traditional flatbed scanner connected to a PC. The copier in that same room can also be used for scanning.

There is no charge for scanning.

Scantron

A Scantron test scoring machine, scoring forms, and item analysis forms are located in the library receiving area next to the Library Dean's office.

If you need assistance using the Scantron, please contact Michelle Guy in the library.
