Success Center: For Faculty and Staff

Faculty Advising Development

Faculty advisors support student success by helping them identify, explore, and pursue their academic and professional goals.

For more information about faculty advising, please see the Faculty Advising page.

Testing Center

The Testing Center offers a quiet separate setting where students can complete assessments according to their individual needs. Together, the professor and student determine whether the Testing Center is a good fit for the student and set a time for the assessment. The professor then fills out the Testing Center Proctoring Form at least a week before the assessment is to take place to reserve their time slot. Both the student and the professor will be notified if the requested time is available or if a new time needs to be set up.

The Testing Center is located in the Learning Center in room 020 on the bottom floor of the Carlyle Campbell Library. Assessments can be schedules by appointment between 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday-Thursday, and between 8:00am and 2:00pm, Friday. If you have questions or concerns, we are available online during regular office hours via our WebChat or email us at learningcenter@meredith.edu with the subject line: Testing Center.

For additional information about the Testing Center, please see the Testing Center website.

Success Coaching

A white mug with a Meredith College logo holds gray and maroon pens next to a Student Success Center brochure.

Success coaches offer students one-on-one mentoring to support their success as college students. With the help of a success coach, students can identify and overcome obstacles to their academic success, develop skills that will support their success long after graduation, and connect with resources and programs on campus.

Students can schedule an appointment with a success coach.

Tutoring

A tutor assists a student.

Learning Center tutors are trained to assist their peers with a variety of subjects, including math, chemistry, biology, world languages, and more. Our tutors can also assist students with writing and study skills across all content areas. Sessions typically last thirty minutes and can occur online or in-person in the Learning Center.

Embedded Tutoring

Embedded tutors collaborate with faculty to support students' learning in a particular course. If you are interested in embedding a tutor in your classes, you can find more information about embedded tutoring on the Learning Center Information for Faculty page.

Recommending a Tutor

Is there an outstanding student in your content area that you'd like to recommend as a future tutor? Members of faculty can recommend students by completing the faculty recommendation form. In order to become peer tutors at the Learning Center, potential tutors must also complete an application, an interview, and the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certified tutor training program, IDS-155: Tutor Training. Additional information about recommending tutors can be found on the Learning Center Information for Faculty page.

For more information about the Learning Center, please see About the Learning Center.

Referrals can either be emailed directly to a student's assigned Success Coach or they can be submitted through Self Service. To submit a referral in Self Service, you will navigate to the Miscellaneous tab on the left-hand side of the main screen. A drop down menu will appear and you will select Notes, Referrals and Kudos. From there, you will select Enter Student Referral and then search for the student. Complete the referral card and submit.
Students can make an appointment with a success coach or academic advisor through the following link: Schedule an Appointment. Students should login using their Meredith College credentials and select "Schedule an Advising or Coaching Appointment." There will be options to narrow down session availability according to the reason for the visit and the preferred date and time. Students will receive an email confirming their appointment.

Our goal is to provide tutoring services for content areas where they are needed. If your content area isn't currently covered and you believe your students would benefit from receiving tutoring in this area, please contact us at learningcenter@meredith.edu to discuss adding a new subject to our offerings. One of our tutors may be qualified to tutor in the requested content area. If not, you may need to recommend a tutor for the position.
Faculty can recommend students as tutors for their content area by filling out the faculty recommendation form. The Learning Center hires new tutors twice a year, once in September and once in February. Once they receive a faculty recommendation, students complete the application and an interview with the director of the Learning Center. Students who have completed these steps can enroll in IDS-155: Tutor Training. For more information, please see the Information for Faculty page on the Learning Center Website.
