Services

AV Equipment

Audio/visual equipment such as: camcorders, digital cameras, LCD projectors, laptops for presentations, overhead and slide projectors, video editing systems and more may be borrowed by faculty, staff, students and visitors (with prior approval).  See the Media Services equipment page for details.

Binding

The library is no longer able to provide binding services to patrons. We encourage patrons to go to Lulu.com in order to self-publish their manuscripts. To rebind books patrons should contact the HF Group Bindery in Greensboro, NC directly.

Book Sale

The library has an ongoing book sale all year long -- the price of every book is $1.00. Look for a rotating selection of books on a shelf next to the Media Services desk. Please place your money in the gray metal box on top of the bookshelf. The book sale is on the honor system.

To donate books to the book sale, contact Carrie Nichols or talk to someone at the Ask Desk.

100% of proceeds go to campus fundraisers.

Computers

There are plenty of computers to use while in the library. All except loaner and LINC center computers are available to the public. Here are the different areas to choose from:

Freeman Room computers: 15 computers available for use by Meredith students, faculty and staff only on the ground floor of the library. These computers have Microsoft Office as well as Adobe Design Premium, Logger Pro, and SPSS.  A list of all software available on Freeman Room computers is available here.

Main floor computers: On the main floor are 2 stand-up computer stations, 2 computers and 4 large monitors that can be connected to laptops. All of these computers have Internet access and can be used for printing.

Loaner computers: Laptops are available to be checked out for 1 week to Meredith students, faculty and staff. Come to the Circulation desk to borrow one.

Internet access: A public wireless network is available. Please ask at the main service desk for details.

Printing: For information on printing in the library, and a link to download printer drivers, see here.

Copying

There is one copier available for public use in the library: It is located in the Creation Station on the main floor. The copier accepts CamCards only. It can also be used as a scanner. Copies cost 10¢ each.

To make a transparency: Transparencies can be made on any copier. You must buy the transparency at the Circulation desk and the transparencies must be purchased using CASH. They cost 45¢ each. If you use another kind of transparency, it will melt in the copier.

Fax

You may send or receive a fax from the library.

The fax machine is in the library administration office.  Ask at the main library desk for assistance. The fax number is 919-760-2830.

Interlibrary Loan

If an item is not available at Meredith, the library can obtain it for you by borrowing or getting a photocopy from another library.  Please see the Interlibrary Loan page for guidelines.

Lamination

Need to get something laminated? Media Services is the place for that. Bring what you want to laminate and they will show you how. The cost is only 20¢ per foot. Keep in mind that it takes 20 minutes for the laminator to warm up, so call ahead at 919-760-8444 to make sure it is on and that someone will be there to help you.

Printing

The library has two printers connected to the campus network. All require a user to swipe their campus card and the card must contain sufficient funds to pay for the printing.  See a library staff member if assistance is needed.  There are no printers that accept cash.

To print from a personal laptop in the library, you may need to download and install the appropriate printer drivers.  Download drivers here.

Each fall semester, Technology Services gives Freshmen students $5.00 for printing. Students can add additional funds to their CamCard which can be used for anything, (i.e. printing, supply store purchases, photocopying etc.)

Quiet Study

The top floor of the library is dedicated to quiet study. Conversation is permitted on that floor as long as it is brief and quiet enough to not disturb students in the area. There is also a silent study room (115) on the top floor next to the stairwell where no conversation or sound is permitted.

Conversation is permitted in other areas of the library, but library patrons are still expected to be considerate of others around them.

Patrons who feel that someone is at a noise level that is disturbing should bring it to the attention of the staff at the Borrow desk or the Ask desk on the main floor.

The Library welcomes suggestions from faculty, staff, and students to purchase items for the library collection. Please use the Purchase Request form for this purpose.
