Shannon Lynn Grimes was born in Tacoma, Washington. Dr. Grimes moved to North Carolina in 2006 and as of 2018 still lives in North Carolina. She was interviewed by Juliana van Dyck on October 22, 2018. Juliana was a student in Dr. Dan Fountain's HIS-214 class in 2018.
