Oaks Apartments

The Oaks Apartments are on-campus apartments open to Meredith College junior and seniors. It is the first and only on campus apartment complex. Each apartment includes a kitchen, living room, washer/dryer, and either two bedrooms, or four bedrooms, and two bathrooms. The Oaks Apartments have 78 units and can hold 252 residents.

History

In 2007, as part of Meredith College’s goals to increase the percentage of upperclassmen remaining on campus and to boost the number of students living on campus overall, the Board of Trustees approved plans to build on-campus apartments for junior and senior students.

Construction for the apartments began in spring of 2008 and the apartments opened in the fall of 2009. The new building was awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification. To achieve LEED certification, a project earns points by adhering to prerequisites and credits that address carbon, energy, water, waste, transportation, materials, health and indoor environmental quality. Projects go through a verification and review process by GBCI and are awarded points that correspond to a level of LEED certification:

The Oaks Apartments include adult friendly-privileges including the possession and consumption of alcohol for students 21-years of age and older and for more flexible male visitation hours.
