Beverly Perdue's Time in the NC Senate

Beverly served in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 1986 to 1990. She later went on to serve in the North Carolina State Senate from 1990-2000. During her time in the Senate, she was one of the first women to hold the position of chief budget writer for the state of North Carolina. During her time in office, the General Assembly successfully passed Governor Hunt's Excellent Schools Act which raised standards as well as teacher pay in North Carolina. Perdue also went on to spearhead the debate that would eventually lead to the creation of North Carolina's Clean Water Management Trust Fund
