Individuals' Scrapbooks

This series of scrapbooks includes any scrapbook, photo album, or clippings associated with a particular individual. The scrapbooks were created by Meredith alumnae and former Meredith professors.  They are organized by graduation year and in the case of professors by the years covered in the scrapbook.

1910-1919

Emily Huntley Mckimmon

McKinnon, Emily Huntley (Emily Toy Huntley) 1911

 

Emily, from Wadesboro, NC, attended Meredith College from 1907-1911.  During her time at Meredith she became involved in various clubs and organizations.  Huntley, her freshman year at Meredith, was secretary of the Anson County Club. Sophomore year, she became class historian.  Her junior and senior years she was a member of Sorosis and the basketball team, becoming captain of the basketball team her senior year.

Minnie Middleton Hussey

Hussey, Minnie Middleton (Minnie Claire Middleton) 1911

 

Minnie, from Warsaw, NC attended Meredith College from 1907-1911.  While at Meredith she participated in various clubs and organizations, even taking on leadership roles starting her Freshman year.  Middleton was a freshman editor for the Oak Leaves and freshman class president.  Sophomore year she took on the role of prose for her class. Junior year, Middleton was an editor for the Oak Leaves and on the executive committee for the Student's Association.  Middleton became president of the Student Association.  During her college years, she was also a member of the Astrotekton Literary Society, YWCA, and Sororis.

Mary Elizabeth Lovill

Lovill, Mary Elizabeth 1912

 

Mary, from Mt. Airy, NC, attended Meredith College during the years 1907 to 1912.  She received her degree in elocution. While at Meredith, Lovill held the secretary/treasurer position for the dramatic club, Philaretian society, and Sorosis. Her senior year she became president of the dramatic club.  Also, Lovill was a member of the college choir.

Ruth Cook Phillips

Phillips, Ruth Cook (Ruth Cook) 1912

 

Ruth, from La Crosse, VA,  attended Meredith College between 1907 and 1912.  She received her diploma in piano in 1912.  While at Meredith, she was a member of the Glee Club, College Choir, and the YWCA.  By her senior year she became vice-president for her class and the secretary for the Astrotekton Society.

Barnett, Viola Alderman (Viola Alderman) 1913

 

Viola, from Edenton, NC, attended Meredith College from 1909 until 1913, when she received her Bachelor of Arts. During her years at Meredith she was a member of the college choir and the Astrotekton Society.  Viola also won ribbons in the gymnastics exhibition multiple years and was a commencement marshall.

Gertrude Horn, from Winston-Salem, NC, attended Meredith College between 1909 and 1913.  She received her Bachelor of Arts in 1913. During her years at Meredith, Gertrude was an editor for the Oak Leaves her freshman and sophomore years.  Also, while at Meredith, she was a member of Sorosis, the basketball team, and the Four Leaf Clover club.  Her senior year she became president of the Philaretian Society and YWCA.

Grimmer, Mae Frances 1914

 

Mae Grimmer, from Cape Charles, VA,  attended Meredith during the years 1910 to 1914.  While at Meredith she studied music.  Also, she was a member of the Astrotekton Society, Longshoremen, and The Virginians club.  Mae won a ribbon for the May 1912 gymnastics exhibition.  Her senior year, Mae held the position of vice-president for her class and vice-president of the Astrotekton Society.

 Mary Lynch, from Rocky Mount, NC, attended Meredith Academy and then Meredith College between 1909 and 1917.  She also taught at Meredith College from 1918-1969.  While a student at Meredith Mary Lynch was a member of the Astrotekton Society.  She also held the position of class poet her sophomore and junior years.  Her senior year, Mary Lynch was editor-in-chief for The Acorn and class historian.

Miriam, from Fuquay Springs, NC, attended Meredith between 1925-1929.  During her years at Meredith, she was a member of the Astrotekton Society, Colton English Club, International Relations Club, and Little-Theatre.  Miriam also played played basketball all four years and became President of the Athletic Association her senior year.  She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1929.
