How-to guide on making Documents Accessible

Structured documents organize the document for easy navigation.

Structuring a document is also very important for auto creating a Table of Contents.

 

Unstructured document

To structure a document:

Use styles

Use Word Styles

 

Starting with the Title, use the style 'Title' and subsequent 'Subtitle' accordingly.

For the rest of the document, label each section heading as 'Heading 1' and subsections under each main heading with 'Heading 2' and so forth.

Structured navigation

Creating a navigable document allows readers to skip directly to the section they need.

 

To get to the Navigation View, click 'View' and make sure the navigation box is checked under 'Show':
