Janis Sue Lynnbomb Ramquist was born September 19, 1947 and grew up in California. She has a Bachelor's degree in social science. She first worked as a teacher, but eventually became a lobbyist after moving to North Carolina. In North Carolina, Ramquist headed Equal Rights Amendment efforts in Forsyth County and the Winston-Salem area. She chaired the League of Women Voters’ Equal Rights committee in the county, worked with the Women’s Political Caucus to support the campaigns of local ERA-supporting politicians, ran the Get Out The Vote campaign in the county, and served as the Forsyth County chair for North Carolinians United for the Equal Rights Amendment (NCUERA). Since the ERA movement, Ramquist has successfully lobbied for other legislation that would benefit women, such as tax reform and having pensions being considered part of marital property. Ramquist has three children. She lives in Raleigh and continues to advocate for women’s rights, the environment, and other issues.
