Photos through the Decades at Meredith College: 1990s

In the Meredith College archives are literally hundreds of photos. With them, we can see both what students over the decades have in common, and how things have changed.

Starting in 1988, and continuing through the 1990s to about 2005, the Meredith Christian Association (MCA) sponsored a service trip to Florida for students to work on a Habitat for Humanity House. During this period, there was also a Meredith Habitat for Humanity Club that volunteered regularly for the Wake County organization. This photo was from the 1990s.

1990     Stunt changed from play competition between classes to games and races event.

1990     First Can Art competition. (Replaced toilet paper fights.)

1991    "Father-Daughter Dance" renamed "Guardian Angel Dance."

1991    "Mother-Daughter Tea" renamed  "Tea for Two."

1992    "Winter Semi-Formal" renamed "White Iris Ball."

1992     First Ring dinner

1992     Car privileges on campus extended to sophomores

1993     Replacement of card catalog with ALIS (Automated Library Information System)

1994     Introduction of CamCards

1995     Department of Home Economics becomes Department of Human Environmental Sciences

1995     Car privileges extended to freshmen

1998     First Charming Evening

1999     Creation of “Ring Week”

1999     First Summer Reading Program
