Bland Simpson Bio

Bland Simpson is a native of Elizabeth City, North Carolina.  He completed his undergraduate degree at the UNC-Chapel Hill. 

 

Author of nine books, primarily creative non-fiction about eastern North Carolina, Simpson is also the longtime pianist of the Tony-Award-winning string band The Red Clay Ramblers.

 

His books Into the Sound CountryInner Islands, and Little Rivers & Waterway Tales also feature photography by his wife, conservationist Ann Cary Simpson.

 

In 2005 he was the Fine Arts recipient of the North Carolina Award, the state's highest civilian honor. He currently serves as Kenan Distinguished Professor of English and Creative Writing at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Bland read from several of his books and concluded his program with a musical performance.
